Join our social assistance projects

The Social Assistance Charity Program of the SSGS is guided by faith, compassion, and fraternal love. Our mission is to support children, families, adults, and seniors in need. To sustain and expand our impact in the community, we welcome all who are willing to practice charity. Membership in the Spiritist Study Group of Seattle is not required to volunteer.

Issaquah Meals

We provide meals (cooked and served) every third Saturday of the month for the homeless, families, and senior citizens in the community. For 31 years, the Issaquah Meals program has served nightly meals, at the Community Hall located at 180 E. Sunset Way, Issaquah, WA next to the fire station. At the request of the city of Issaquah and local churches, the program was started in May of 1989 by Catholic Community Services. Initially, meals were served two times per week and then it was increased to Monday-Friday. Volunteer groups from local faith congregations, community organizations, families, and neighborhood groups provide the weeknight meals. The program provides a safe and welcoming atmosphere for guests and volunteers. There is also a site leader available each night to answer questions and provide resources.

Open Arms

Started in June of 2023, the Open Arms Project’s mission is to assist and support Foster Families with donations of diapers and wipes. Every month we collect diapers (sizes that are most needed by the Foster Care System). The donations are made via the Amazon link provided which will then ship the donation to a volunteer’s home. The link is posted once a month on the Auta De Souza | Open Arms WhatsApp Group. The volunteers will then take items donated to the store in Everett which the Foster Families can access when they need support for their foster baby.

YoYo Garden

Launched in November 2025, the YoYo Garden is a project born from love and collaboration. It brings together handcrafted pieces of Fuxico, thoughtful design, and a mission to spread joy while supporting a creative community. A fuxico is a traditional Brazilian fabric rosette made by gathering and stitching a circle of cloth. It is a technique and decorative element used in a variety of creative applications. Children participate in every stage of the process – from making the fuxicos to branding, packaging, and deciding how funds are allocated – helping them build skills and confidence. Each fuxico is carefully handmade, and all proceeds support the project, local animal shelters, and our educational and spiritual programs.

"Charity - the prayer that illuminates and blesses,
The power of affection that the tear refines,
Fraternity and light reborn from alms,
From the practice of goodness, from person to person!"
